Main Hospital Following the Northridge Earthquake of January, 1994, Kaiser Permanente began a seismic repair and strengthening project to their Main Hospital at the Woodland Hills Medical Center. Joints in the steel frame had been weakened during the earthquake and had to be re-welded, and/or bolted in place with new brackets. During the entire project, all departments within the 435,566 square foot hospital had to remain open and in full operation. To accomplish this, all work was done within fire rated enclosures, with all air directly circulated from outside the building. These enclosures were each constructed and then removed from the various work areas according to a master plan that coordinated the relocation of necessary departments, with the construction crews, as they progressed through the building. As new Owner requirements developed throughout construction, the schedule was rephased, and the resulting budget and cash flow disruptions analyzed. Intelisyn was involved in the preconstruction and construction phases of the project, and aided the Owner in fulfilling FEMA / OES requirements. |
