Venice Parking Structure After the Northridge Earthquake struck Southern California on January 17, 1994, cleanup and rebuilding efforts began as soon as possible. Part of these efforts included rebuilding the Venice Boulevard Parking Structure at Kaiser Permanentes West Los Angeles Medical Center. First, the old parking structure, damaged beyond repair by the earthquake, was demolished. This included the cut off of piles, and the removal of all asphalt paving. Then the new structure, comprised of 4 levels, and 131,472 square feet, was erected. The Parking Structure is comprised of cast-in-place, post tensioned concrete on precast piles. Typically, the perimeter walls were cast-in-place concrete shear walls and spandrels with horizontal reveals, with laminated spandrel and vision glass at stairwells and aluminum grille throughout. Sitework included the construction of an elaborate arcade, with an overhead trellis structure fabricated of tubular steel. |
