Ms. Steinkamp compliments the depth of the Intelisyn Team with over 35 years of professional experience in Planning, Design and Construction Management. Proven leadership skills have led to the successful management/representation of over 4 million square feet of hospital, clinical, administrative, parking and support space including infrastructure maintenance, seismic and lease space tenant improvements. The implementation of an $80M/year capital program was delivered through the management of a multi-disciplined team consisting of commissioned architects, engineers, specialty consultants, and general contractors. Ms. Steinkamp’s “project life cycle” experience is invaluable when delivering program strategy, master planning, real estate due diligence and business case support. Ms. Steinkamp is equally qualified to turn the program vision into reality through the areas of entitlement, design, and construction through move-in activities.

Portfolio highlights include the Design and Construction Management of the $281M, 400,000sf Kaiser Panorama City Replacement Hospital, $67M in Medical Office Building projects, and all ancillary/support functions of a Medical Campus (Central Plants, Parking Structures, and Infrastructure), as well as the construction of MonteCedro, a $100M senior living, life plan project. Recent projects include the City of Hope, Duarte Outpatient Clinic and Parking Structure projects. Ms. Steinkamp demonstrates excellent business acumen, and provides Owners with project team leadership through diverse and comprehensive operations knowledge in Healthcare Facilities.

Ms. Steinkamp holds a degree in Architecture from Arizona State University and is a licensed architect in the State of California.

Steve Phillips
Senior Project Manager
 

Mr. Phillips is a results oriented, hands-on construction and development professional with 21 years of experience in Healthcare and the Advanced Technology Industries. Experienced in team leadership and communication, he has the ability to initiate/manage cross-functional teams and multi-disciplinary projects. Over the past 33 years Intelisyn has become accustom to managing projects within fully operational Medical Facilities. Mr. Phillips understands the fine, and sensitive line surrounding healthcare facilities while driving the scope, schedule, and cost parameters of the project. Mr. Phillips has a proven ability to work closely with end users, contractors, architects, engineers, and agency officials to meet project goals and resolve difficult project issues. He has managed close to $875M in Capital Projects for clients across multiple industries.

Prior to joining the Intelisyn Team, Mr. Phillips managed capital development for Kaiser Permanente, Abbott Labs and Guidant Corporation with overall project responsibility of $88M in Capital and Expense projects for the highly technical life sciences, and healthcare industries. One of many outstanding achievements includes the completion of a $697M Polysilicon Facility. Responsibilities included financial projections, contracts, project development, scoping, budgeting, capital appropriation requests, programming, design, permitting, estimating, and construction through closeout.

Within the 10 yr. $36B Capital Plan for Kaiser Permanente National Facilities Services, Mr. Philips provided Project Management services on $65M worth of capital projects for the San Diego Service area. This encompassed the entire county and 25 different campuses. The scope of projects ranged from the KP Healthconnect automated health record-clinical information system to a complete mechanical systems replacement of a 5-story medical office building. Most projects were under OSHPD jurisdiction.

As part of the Facilities and Site Services department Mr. Phillips managed $22M worth of capital projects for the Santa Clara and Temecula Life Science campuses. The scope of projects ranged from the Drug Eluting (Coronary) Stent combination product to the 6.5MW campus backup electrical systems during the California electricity crisis, also known as the Western U.S. Energy Crisis of 2000/2001.

Mr. Phillips currently manages development of Cedars Sinai Cancer Center, Medical Office Buildings, and Bio-Manufacturing Facility projects totaling in approximately $75M.

Mr. Phillips graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in Applied Technology; Electrical.

 
Derek Jensen
Senior Project Manager
 

Derek Jensen has 19 years of healthcare, life sciences, high-tech, and educational construction project management experience in Northern California, Southern California, and Idaho. He has successfully managed the pre-construction, estimating, design-build, scheduling, construction, and post-construction phases of major projects ranging from ground-up construction, fast-track, and tenant improvements.

Mr. Jensen has a passion to deliver the best customer experience - achieved by adding value, creative solutions, and a positive approach to the process in addition to completing projects on time and on budget. Mr. Jensen’s approach has manifested success in several multi-million dollar and smaller projects from pre-construction through completion. Most of the project management services were provided to repeat clients who have come to trust the product delivered.

Mr. Jensen is positive and has good listening skills which enable him to facilitate a high performing team culture. He is an experienced project manager with the ability to lead teams and projects to successful completion through the power of collaboration.

Mr. Jensen has worked for most of his career with DPR Construction in the special services group. DPR is a national technical builder that specializes in highly complex and sustainable projects in the healthcare, life sciences and advanced technology industries. He has worked closely with owners, contractors, designers and building officials to successfully meet project schedules, budgets and complex coordination issues.

Cody Strange
Senior Project Manager, Business Associate
 

Mr. Strange has managed nearly $500M and provided services to many of Intelisyn’s key clients, including City of Hope, Redlands Community Hospital, and Front Porch Senior Living Communities. Cody is a key player on Intelisyn’s City of Hope Team, managing the Duarte Outpatient Center project, a $415M, 350,000 SF cancer outpatient facility with new construction of Pharmacy, Lab, Exam, Treatment, Infusions, Food Service facilities. He has worked closely with design teams, engineers, and consultants, as well as patients and staff, to procure and expedite projects through permitting, facilitation of design, followed by scope, schedule, and cost management of the construction processes. Cody has expertise in the protocol and coordination of jurisdictional agencies at a city and state level, including HCAi/OSHPD project development, review, and construction processes. Additional management experience includes the design and construction of Pharmacy/Clean Rooms, an Emergency Department, Memory Care Remodels, Campus Utility Infrastructure, and Medical Office Space TI.

Prior to Intelisyn, Mr. Strange spent 8 years in public and private construction, as a General Contractor and Developer, heavily involved with the urban gentrification of Downtown Los Angeles, including mid-rise and high-rise Mixed-Use buildings. Cody’s energy, attention to detail, and passion for project development provides our clients with efficiency and quality as well as a fresh attitude towards construction technology and its critical role in future processes.

Mr. Strange graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management with a minor in Economics. Other passions include, competing in the Catalina Classic, a 32-mile Paddle Board race from Catalina Island to the Manhattan Beach Pier (5x Finisher), CrossFit, golf, and travel.

 
Gerald Shu

Gerald offers 13 years of extensive experience providing Project and Construction Management for reputable healthcare clients such as Kaiser Permanente, Loma Linda University Medical Center, Providence, and many others. From high-volume building programs inclusive of multiple active projects or singular large ground up construction projects in excess of $1 billion dollars, Gerald provides guiding leadership. With a natural ability to empower robust project teams, Gerald is a versatile project leader with experience in all project phases with an earned reputation of excellence in customer service given his partnering personality and pragmatic approach to project management.

Prior to joining Intelisyn, Gerald managed capital projects at Kaiser Permanente cumulatively valued at approximately $120 million dollars, specializing in HCAI/OSHPD 1 remodel construction of Operating Rooms and Imaging projects (IR’s and Cath Labs). Gerald also provided support to several operational committees for the Medical Center, including space programming and change management. As part of these committees, Gerald provided conceptual programming, cost models, and business case recommendations for new capital project requests and change requests from the departments. Gerald also managed the Facilities Condition Index (FCI) for the Plant Maintenance program. As part of this the Plant Maintenance program, he developed and managed a 5 year capital improvement plan with Facilities.

Gerald then transitioned to work on the new Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) Campus Transformation Project valued at $1.4 billion dollars, providing change order and cost management services. He also separately managed the design and construction of the Loma Linda International Heart Institute (IHI) in the new hospital tower with 6 Cath Labs and PACU valued at $36 million, as well as the Seismic Separation for the removal of non seismically compliant buildings from acute care services valued at $7 million dollars. Following the completion of the LLUMC CTP and IHI projects, he transitioned to manage the programming and design of a proposed new greenfield hospital for Providence, completing schematic design with an estimated project budget of $1.1 billion dollars before the project was halted by the attorney general.

For San Bernardino County’s Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Gerald managed approximately $60 million dollars of several capital improvement remodel projects, including the build out of two (2) Hybrid Operating Rooms and a 15,000 square ft build out of an Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit.

Gerald currently manages the design and construction of a 21,400 square ft build out of a new IR PACU department within a shelled space of a new Outpatient Clinic building for City of Hope, valued at $50 million dollars. He also is providing project management support for the construction of the same new Clinic Building, valued at $400 million.

Cole Thomas

Mr. Thomas is a central member of the Intelisyn team that is currently providing construction logistics coordination, scheduling and communication support for UC San Diego on both campuses (La Jolla and Hillcrest). Mr. Thomas is adept at collaborating with multiple project teams to develop work plans and schedules that meet the requirements of a wide range of stakeholders while also developing mitigation measures to ensure continued operational success for the University. Mr. Thomas provides both strategic and technical support to project teams working on Healthcare, Student Housing, and Regional Transportation projects. He is responsible for ensuring all UCSD stakeholders, students, patients, staff, and emergency responders have advance notification of all upcoming construction impacts. Mr. Thomas has proven capable of negotiating with multiple project teams simultaneously and developing alternative ways to perform work in an effort to mitigate construction impacts to UC San Diego operations, while also ensuring the projects stay on schedule and the work is completed safely. Mr. Thomas' portfolio of projects include infrastructure upgrades, roadway work, bridges, light-rail transit, residential, and healthcare project work on the UC San Diego campuses. Mr. Thomas has experience working closely with all members of the project delivery team including owners, design consultants, contractors, and various government agencies. His hands-on experience producing project schedules, long range planning, socializing and presenting work plans, writing mass communications, hosting and documenting meetings, and efficient use of Bluebeam software to assist project teams and plan for future work has proven to be very valuable.

Mr. Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science, Construction Engineering degree from San Diego State University.

Nick Palmer
Project Manager
 

Mr. Palmer has 5 years of construction experience as a Developer on large mixed-use and residential projects across Southern California. The success of these projects exemplifies the key role he played in the development of 847 residential units and $200 million in construction. Having conducted project management operations as the contractor and owner concurrently, Mr. Palmer has gained a unique understanding of how to bring the architects, engineers, consultants, public officials, and end-users together to deliver a successful project. His diligence, attention to detail, and desire to see all project stakeholders prosper have proven to be an invaluable asset for each team he has been part.

Mr. Palmer’s current responsibilities include assistance with Hospital services and ancillary areas such as the Emergency Department, Main Lobby, Entry Plaza and Hospitality. In addition to the projects under OSHPD jurisdiction Mr. Palmer is involved with multiple Senior Living Community projects ranging from a 35-acre redevelopment to dining and exterior amenity renovations.

Mr. Palmer graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management. Other interests include competing in triathlons (140.6 Finisher 2015, 2017), hiking, and any other outdoor activity.

 
David Williford

David Williford

Mr. Williford brings mixed-use and restaurant construction management experience to the Intelisyn team. While collaborating with Ownership, Architectural, and General Contracting teams to develop logistics and schedules, he ensures that impacts to operating facilities are mitigated while accommodating diverse project requirements. Mr. Williford’s ability to analyze operational data is an invaluable tool as Healthcare and Senior Living construction are focused on the end users including residents, patients, physicians and/or staff. Mr. Williford has managed tenant improvements, mixed-use, and retail projects during the pre-construction, construction, and closeout/owner turnover phases inclusive of property management.

Mr. Williford provides logistics coordination for campus improvements within UC San Diego in conjunction with the Mid Coast Trolley extension. Intelisyn anticipates Mr. Williford will enhance his understanding of Healthcare construction utilizing his team-oriented communication style and results driven focus to assist our Intelisyn/Client teams.

Mr. Williford graduated from UC San Diego with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Communication.

John Merki
Manager, Information Technology
 

Mr. Merki has worked in the Information Technology Industry for 13 years and has experience in many roles. Working as an IT consultant for small to mid-sized businesses and running the backend of large corporate offices, Mr. Merki has a familiarity with all IT responsibilities regardless of the scope.

Mr. Merki coordinates the alignment of technology to business within Intelisyn by working with both office and field site staff to determine current and future needs of the company. He oversees the operations of company servers, storage, networking, and security for Intelisyn’s main and regional offices and continually evaluates new technology for applicability and usability across Intelisyn’s Information Systems. He is also on the forefront of expanding the robust integration of cutting edge technologies into the business world seamlessly for both the maintainer and the operator alike.

Mr. Merki has an avid passion for Web/App Design and has designed business websites for Innex, Playhut, and Metro Distribution Center to name a few. He comes to Intelisyn from his own IT Consultant business, with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from CSUSB in Computer Science with a concentration in Systems Administration and Server Foundations.
